Oregon

The beautiful Oregon coast. To bad it is too cold to swim in!

Our friends have a hook up at a cabin along the McKenzie River where we spent the night. Falling asleep to the sound of a rushing river is the best! We also took out some great old bikes and cycled on dirt paths through the forrest of wide west coast trees!

We took a hike around Smith Rock a famous climber spot.

Gotta love the food carts in Portland. We tried one that served Thai food and another with a Korean taco! These were cheap, yummy, approachable and easy places to pick up a meal.

Oregon

Our friends live in Corvalis, a college town. It is a very bike friendly city and we toured the city on bicycle!

We visited the costal city of Newport where you can see the male seals as they migrate.

In Newport you can buy fresh seafood straight off the boat. Crab.

Critical Mass

I learned how to open a coconut today at my favorite Vietmanese Deli. The meat might be a future shaved ice ingedient.

It was a hot weekend

Tour De Fat!!! A great bike festival that has come to Mpls for the 2nd year in a row. Music, bikes, rides, contests, great New Belguim beer and you could ride all these crazy bikes that are in the picture.

Because it was hot we made some ice desserts this one has mango.

Cary's family bought the hand crank ice shaver like 20 years ago! Works great.

Here is a sweet red bean and macha ice. I can't wait to use the other ingredients we have on our next batch.

Trip to Wisconsin

Picking strawberries. It was the end of the season but still a lot to pick! Take a break and pick some more.

40 pounds worth, 2 of the flats are just for Cary, but as a group we brought back five or six flats between the 5 of us.

We also got to pick asparagus for the first time! It grows in a row right out of the ground and you just snip it off and throw it in a basket.

Camping

Although this picture only captures the beauty of Savanna Portage State Park we also saw some wildlife. We saw swimming beavers, heard some really loud frogs, and felt crawling ticks.

Conor cooked some really yummy yams hobo style.

This park is most famous for the great continental devide, the spot were rain water either heads towards the Atlantic Ocean or to the Gulf of Mexico.

So every 10 years the Minneapolis Institute of Arts opens a gallery for Minnesota artists to exhibit one piece. There were around 4,500 contibutions this decade.
